Let's face it Sammy took a great band and made it awsome. SH was late 80's DLR was early 80's. They both worked well for their eras.

@olio8773 Let's both agree that Van Halen is one of the greatest bands ever, but watching them now without Michael Anthony on bass is sad. Wolfie is trying his best but he doesn't have the stage presence and certainly not the backing vocals that Mike has. Not having MA in the band is a huge loss, wouldn't you agree?

@govrom12 Yeah, I should have clarified that I think Sammy sucks with VH, but he is no doubt very talented. I also will admit that 5150 is a classic album, but Sammy is not more talented than DLR. Dave gets a bad rap. The whole damn band was always loaded and Eddie turned out to be the biggest problem of them all. Dave is arguably the greatest frontman in the history of rock. I also really hate when people say Dave can't sing...HORSESHIT! Rock is about kicking ass, not great singing.

@olio8773 Personally, I like the songs with Dave over those with Sammy. Van Halen had a harder rock sound with DLR but let's get real Sammy has way more talent than Dave ever will, and I guarantee Sammy didn't half ass it on the stage the way Dave did. At least Sammy respected the Van Halen fans and didn't get up there loaded the way Dave often did.

Boy, VH really sucked when Hagar was with them. That is unless you like borderline soft rock pop music. It's funny watching him in this video flopping around trying to do DLR leg kicks.

@falcon65drums I agree. In fact,I'll go one better---I'll say that in many cases,(With the exception of the 1st two albums)his rhythm playing is actually better than his lead playing.

For the folks below thinking VH could come back forget it they are nothing more then gray heads and half deads at this point. Good during their time but at this point its over. Now if you want to see three guys who can play just as good today as they did 25 years ago go see the three kings. For those of you who dont know who the three kings are go see RUSH and youll forget who VH is.

@falcon65drums Just had to give you a long distance high-five for that comment re: rhythm guitar. It is indeed a very underrated and sometimes almost lost art. I've made some decent dollars simply by being able to hold a rhythm, and I ain't NO EVH.

@mrbrianmccarthy They're a novelty act now. Wolf has no business being in the band. It's not a knock against him but really, he does not cut it at all. His playing is not comparable and he has no stage presence or voice. Let's be real, current VH is a joke and therre's no reason they should be unless Mikey truly doesn't want to play with them. Worst case VH can hire a professional player that has some stage presence instead of experimenting on our dollar. Half price tickets would seem fair.

@Magnum74 Well they're gettin old bro---And they needed Mike on the last tour IMO.I can understand Eddie wanting his son to be onstage and to get him started, but a true VH reunion should've had ALL the original members---They should've had Wolfgang come on and sit in for a few numbers near the end of the show. That would've been the better way to go.

I have to say the band sounded tighter on the OU812 tour than they did on any of the other tours. They seemed to have gotten into their groove with Sammy---Eddie was playing well, and Sammy and Michael were both singing well too.
