When you're sitting back,in your rose pink Cadillac, thinking about some Kentucky derby days....I'll be in my basement room, with a needle and a spoon, and another girl to take my pain away

Technically the song is credited to Jagger/Richards like pretty much every Stones original, but Keef was heavily influenced by Gram so it wouldn't surprise me if the song originally came from the two of them.

GFY. I already admitted I was wrong before you so generously and grammatically incorrectly chose to waste your time pointing out my error.

I don't understand why people like you comment on things you're clearly clueless of.

Of course you can make connections, and it is possible, but I think it is not likely Gram and Townes spent much time together. In fact, it is more likely they would have been connected by other folks in the Austin/Houston scene like Jerry Jeff Walker. I don't think Emmylou was really connected to the Texas crowd until a little later, once they were all in Nashville. I know Townes wasn't in Nashville until after Gram died.

No record of them playing together...Gram died in September 19, 1973 at the hands of Sister Morphine and Alcohol. .Former bandmate Bernie Leadon of the Eagles, a band whose sound he didn't care much for, wrote a tribute songa about him, My Man. His muciscal vision has been carried on by Emmylou Harris who recorded the song Boulder to Birmingham about him. Gram's influence on other songwriters is unquestionable.

And none of the songs on Townes Van Zandt's 1993 Roadsong album were composed by the the legendary songwriter. They are all covers of songs composed by such people as Bob Dylan, Lightin Hopkins, T.C. Ashley, Keith and Mick, and others.

From 1978 until 1989 the RS stopped performing this song in public concerts. Rolling Stone (June 10, 1971) writer Jon Landau panned the song saying "it was appalling....especially the lead guitar" and indicated it should not have even been on the album. He also said Wild Horses "doesn't quite come off" and is " too far out." He panned Jaggers vocal on the album and said the Mick Taylor's guitar solos were "boring" but praised his electric slide guitar as "absolutely exquisite."
