Hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, Bobby Lewis was an orphan until age twelve. Dissatisfied with his adoptive parents, he ran away and begun singing around town. He later moved to Detroit where he met Jackie Wilson during his start in singing. After horning his craft in singing, Bobby moved to New York City to pursue his destiny in singing. He met Ritchie Adams of the Fireflies after a performance one night at the Apollo Theater and was asked to come down to the Beltone recording studio and was offered a recording contract. "Tossin and Turnin" was a mega hit for Bobby Lewis which was released in July 1961. It also sold over a million copies thus elevating it to gold status.
