Hailing from Latta, South Carolina, Chuck Jackson sung with the "other" Del-Vikings from 1959 to 1960. Encouraged to sing solo by Jackie Wilson and signed to Scepter's new Wand label late in 1960. "I don't Want To Cry" was Chuck Jackson's first attempt at Scepter Records and was a hit on the pop charts. The song was formally used as an introduction to the buying public. Released in January 1961, it quickly moved up on the pop charts.

-- I did damn near the same blame thing! But... I saw James Brown. I sure wish I could have seen Big Chuck though... them busy strings just slay me!

love this song since I first heard it on NY radio at age 12 and I would take the El and subway from the Bronx into Harlem and walk down 125th st. just to see the Apollo and all over Manhattan really little did my moms know how far a field I went Once I took the crosstown bus on 125th st and did not have enough change and me being the only white kid or adult for that matter a large black lady put the money in and told me to sit with her which I did she asked where I was going and I didn't know what to say so I said to the Apollo and that's where I got off A year later me and some black homies skipped school and saw Chuck at the Apollo I was about the only white kid there

The year I believe was 62, or 63 when Any Day Now, came out my mother brought home Chuck Jackson 45 record with his face on the cover she was just about to ditch it when I said mom can I have it. She gave it to me I took that record cover and tape it on the wall next to my bed. Before I go to sleep I would stare at Chuck Jackson face. I was 8 yrs old he was so handsome my first crush on a recording artist. What a Legend....what a great voice!!!!
