Best record of 1966. I can't believe it was out of print for so long. I paid $25 for a mono copy 35 years ago. money well spent.

The Kinks' U.S. ban was because their drunken brawling on stage meant audiences were being screwed. Entirely the band's own fault. That said, I'd put their series of albums from 'Face to Face' through 'Muswell Hillbillies' ('Percy' doesn't count) up against any band's peak run.

@carspiv I agree... The problems The Kinks had were bad managers and no Georges Martin as a producer. Also a questionable attitude on top of that... I guess they were not like everybody else! I for got a shitty record company also.

The Kinks music from 1965 to 1968 was,IMO,the best of all the Brit bands.....Kinda Kinks,Face to Face,Something Else, and the perfect Village Green.

Ray Davies is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Though, don't know if others will agree with me on this, but this sounds like the kind of melody that the Dave Clark Five would have done. I could be wrong. I often am, you know. Face to Face was a phenomenal album for its time. It still is. Ray's songwriting was really starting to take off on this album. God save the Kinks forever.

@ethifanman The KInks got a lot of press coverage in the U.S. from '64-65, and got a lot of attention in the UK as well. If you read old issues of British and American music magazines from that time, you'll see it.
