manro 8, spot on mate - I remember watching Tommy on the show and his performances were rough around the edges but really on the edge and you could hear that emotion in his accented voice which is what made it all work. The Mr Brightside cover was great too, just taking it off in a different direction with all of the above but the first album, which I only just listened to recently, had none of that and sounded like it was produced by someone who either had no idea how to capture all of that into a record or had a bunch of ideas for the songs which all turned out badly e.g. full band version of 'Jackets' which is just completely unnecessary, and seriously how do you mess up 'Gimme a Call' when it's just Tommy and a guitar and yet his vocal is drowning it out on the choruses??? And let's compress his vocals to the max and make them as tinny as possible and then tell him not to sing with his accent - yeah great idea. What a waste. Haven't listened to his other albums yet, might give them a go tho....
