I may be wrong but I think what they did back then was have the group play live to the audience but pipe in the record for the TV audience. So it's not really lip syncing but doesn't always line up. The sad part was, is that the live audience got a naked version which many times was nicer than the finished record.

I watched this video closely and don't think there is any lip syncing. The problem appears to be video out of sync with the audio. Not uncommon at all with videos on YouTube. He can still sing, just saw him at PNC here in NJ back in September. Has anyone read his book? It sounds interesting.

Great band, should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! One of the few bands who made the transition from the early 60's sound through the 70's.

I'm not as sure that it's a lip syn. It doesn't sound like the record, slower, missing the harpsichord, they don't fade out, etc. And it is at the Bitter End. But it could have been re-recorded before the concert.

GMA 617 you are right about the 3:31 mark. He definitely is pulling away from the mic but his voice does not tail off. Tommy a lip syncer ?? Who cares- we love him.

The first LP I ever got was Tommy James and the Shondells' Greatest Hits. I received it from my childhood best friend on my 12th birthday in 1970. I played it so much that a couple songs were badly scratched, so I even replaced it. I think it's one of the best pop albums out there!

Thanks for reminding me to look up the lyrics. I've had the record since the fall of 1969, and only now do I know it as "femme jolie". I did take French and they're both (Tommy James and Clique) mispronouncing "femme". The French pronunciation is "fom" with a nasal, not "fem". The words mean: beautiful woman.

I agree, and I've had the record since the fall of 1969. As much as I've liked Tommy James (and still do) since 1969, i think this version is too slow.

I prefer The Clique's version.
