A story about Tim's young life without a father. The story is the same for many young fellas that grew up without a Dad. Look what Tim did with his life. You fellas can make it if you pray 1st and then pick yourself up by your bootstraps. Find out where God wants you to be and I promise you will find peace there. You are deeply loved by Him. Prayers for all the broken hearted from another broken heart.

I dedicated this song to Patrick Rick Pearce. The worst father i have ever seen.Popping in and out of my life whenever it was good for him. Never supporting me in anything. Treat his girl friend of the month children better than his own. Tell me he a friend not a father trying to make it about him. To top it off my grandmother past away to months go did he call did he think to let me know. No tow day go he txt me on facebook and ask me did you know your grandma died. Then deleting his facebook before i could get any information out of him. You have to understand my grandmother was there when he wasn't.For my birth, christmas, easter. everything. I stop talking to her a few years ago because my grandfather had past and she became depressed and moved in with my father. I stop speak to my father cause i got feed up with him. The messed up part about this my grandmother died feb 9, i talk to him before my anniversary which is on feb21. Trying to reconcile with him seeing if he wanted to know about his grandson, who he never seen. All he told me was don't try to reconcile with him and he was proud of me. He didn't say anything about my grandmother not once. Think back on it,it make my stomach sick. i have so much hate for this man. i don't know what to do.

I love this song its sad but it's a good song no child should grow up not knowing who their father is even if he is bad news

I feel a little like the kid, my father isn't in my life, and I've been in and out of mental hospital for depression. Now, my mom is jobless so she can hardly afford all my therapy, I have so many problems from all the trauma I've experienced, and sometimes I just think, "I need my daddy."

It's definitely the son in prison I reckon. Listen to the lyrics. "I should of been learning how to fish, instead of learning how to smoke." and "It's about a teenage girl against the world, who was left there high and dry, about a kid who might have stood a whole lot better shot at life." He follows the wrong path because he doesn't have a father figure to steer him right, and he ends up arrested.. Either way, such a powerful song, I love it.

The son is in prison because in the beginning he says if you're here to steer me straight why would someone visiting someone else in jail say that just listen to the song don't be an idiot

The son is in jail it says sometimes the will for doing wrong is way to strong for any mommas prayer and p.s. When i was in jail we didn't get the newspaper so its definitely talking about the song plus in the beginning he's says of you're here to steer me right

I am mom it happened to. His real dad left and another man adoptied him at the age of 1yr old and he was really proud of him and forever it was just the two of them and then his dad got remarried and had his own son and my son felt leftout!!! Then my son got introuble with the wrong people now he is facing prison. So this song is very touching. He will be 21 in march and has been in there for almost a year. So I feek like this song is about a boy being in prison! !!! Just coming from a mom going through it as we speak.

I thought it was the father in jail, until I actually listened... "He flew in like some big hero, who flew in to save the day, and the boy said if you're here, to steer me right man it's too late..."

I grew up without ever meeting my father, I turned out just fine. It's your choice what you do with your life, don't let your situation effect how you live your life. I never had someone to play catch with, never went fishing except with friends, never had someone to talk to about guy problems, don't use being fatherless as an excuse to make us all look bad.

Honestly, I wasn't trying to defend my opinion, and at this point I'm really confused.

I agree, everyone has their own opinions and may interpret things as they will, but that doesn't merit respect. You have a right to disagree with someone else's opinion and vice versa. You obviously feel strongly about the way you envision this song's story and you feel the need to defend yourself. That, I can't understand. You don't need to prove you are right here, and neither does anyone else. This kind of silly argument takes away from the music.

Like you said, there is just a lifetime of questions, this song brings those questions up. In my opinion, you can't tell who is in jail and who isn't. It's all a matter of opinion. And having gone through similar circumstance, once again like you said, there is no excuse for a father OR a mother to behave in this way. Either way, everyone's interpretation might be different, and people should respect it,
