@doublejroofing My momma's first husband (not my father) was abusive, and because of that I will not turn into him, I have an avid hatred for it, and am getting a degree in Criminal Justice with a special emphasis in domicile cases to help stop this....The Man my mother is currently married has never raised his voice much less his hand, and I'm proud to call him my Father. There is hope

I can relate to this song. Makes me so sad, but what makes me even sadder is reading the comments people leave. I can't explain why these things happen. The part that helps me is you get stronger every time you don't give in. Love to all -3

My life wasn’t exactly like this story, but I still tear up. My Dad had anger problems and my mom had depression (what a combination). Both were irrational many times and neglected each other. Truth be told, they both loved me, they were just really messed up. With songs like this I often hear God. He says take my hand and we will walk this path together. Because of my past, the line that gives me the most hope is “May you find the love of a girl and take her by the hand… walk like a man.”

This song is so true. I lived it. Sometimes your mother is the only father you will ever have. When your father is not there for you, your mother can teach you how to be twice the man your father ever was or ever could be. But sometimes we need a dad. I know I still need one.
