I would say your interpretation is a bit too "nice" as the song is actually way more bitter than that. I don't believe the cradle/black hole reference is to lonlieness....far from it-I think its a reference to him being emotionally and psychologically abused by her while acting high and mighty that she's so much better than him.

Exactly. The whole song is a story about a person who still loves someone WAY more than the other person does. In fact the other is likely cold, distant and likely emotionally/mentally abusive; the other person is also in almost totally in control of the relationship and carries themselves with a sense of self rightousness. I was in a marriage that mirrored this the last 3 or 4 years of its 12 year run--and as bad as it was, until the end, I would have done anything to save it.

Absolutely agree with both @AgentAshcroft and @CruorCanis. This song, while different, reminds me quite a bit of "Angry all the time" in terms of the type of relationship the writer is describing. As a lover of music and an amateur psychologist (in my own crazy mind at least), I'd be curious to know if the writer was in a relationship with someone with histrionic or borderline personality disorder.

@AgentAshcroft You're very close. Yes he's in love and the relationship is falling apart, but he's willing to take the blame for that. He will crawl into his "black hole" while she pretends she's a perfect little angel under her halo. Listen to the lyrics: "paint me into a corner, cover me in rage" and "I can't change the weather." They all show he's willing to take the blunt of her angst b/c he can't change into the man she wants. Just clarifying. Amazing song regardless of interpretation
