This song is absolutely terrifying...Such a terrible, horrifying, pointless war...

Did you know that the napalm used in the Vietnam War had vapors that liquefied the American soldiers' organs when they had extended exposure to it? What a terrible war.

I was the only black person when I did this show. At the first vocal rehearsal, about 3/4 of the cast refused to say "Niggertown" mostly because they knew the power and weight the word "nigger" carries. So, the rest of us would belt it at rehearsals, to make up for the lack of volume. Slowly, the rest of the cast joined in, and the whole number rocked. Yeah, the word "nigger" is awful, but it sends a strong and very real artistic message about the military and war at this point in time.

One: Are you in high school or college? Two: If your in high school and they cut this for racism then they sure are going to cut a lot more three: if your in college I feel sorry for you that you go to a college that believes in censorship Four: WHY are they doing hair if they are just going to censor and cut stuff.

In the production my high school (It was an amazing experience, hands down the best show I've ever been in), we just changed niggertown to Vietnam and it was just as powerful.

If the dingleberries in charge are such dimly-lit bulbs that in order to allow a HS play they have to "P.C" a song that was OBVIOUSLY, historically trying to point out the unfairness of disparity between the races - i.e. the poor and black people's sons and daughters going to feed the military industrial complex that pulls congress' strings,- they can replace the lyric "Niggertown" w "Chiggertown", since the jungles of Vietnam were filled w both 2 and 6-legged parasites. Same CRAP/Different WAR.

@BeadleBelfry The thing is they aren't saying it to be racist. They are saying it to be satirical. It's comment on how the majority of soldiers fighting were black, and the irony was they were fighting for a country that they had very little rights in at the time. This is an overlying theme through out Hair. You can see it in the song Colored Spade as well.

My mom says I can't sing along, beacuse she can't hear the TV. I think I've found the reason of spontanious selfcombustion.

@BeadleBelfry Even though this was posted 10 months ago, I think they should because it could open people's eyes up to how things were and how real racism is. =)

They probably will, but I'l be so pissed off if they cut this from my school's production. It'll be something about racism, I'm sure. I know you can't see it, off in Computerland, as you are, but I'm rolling my eyes. This song is amazing.
