I think I was first drawn to this song by it's beautiful melody, but the version I first heard was the bisexual early one that Tori Amos covered much later. I still absoluely love the intriquate musical aspect of the song, but the lyrics are among Lou Reed's greatest. A sotory of dreams turned into acquiescence for one character and a less than idyllic attempt at reliving a golden age by the other - and all this said almost without any traditional narrative. I was 14 when I was introduced to it. I'm 55 now and it's sadly accurate.

Hadn't heard it in nearly 30 years, and I remembered all the changes nd most of the words. So many shifting feelings in the simple lyrics.....

Goodbye, Lou Reed. The unofficial dirty NYC poet laureate. One of the greatest of all time. He always told it like it is. There is nary a rock musician who draws influence from that man.
