When I was twelve this seemed like a very important track. I loved both albums except for the awful Turning Japanese, their first and only hit. The second album, which this is off, was dark and interesting, considering they were were new wave in '82. No one bought it but me and their parents.

One of the greatest bands of the 1980s.

Maybe one of the reasons this song wasn't as successful as Turning Japanese is because of its dark subject matter.

I swear Dave Fenton and Jim Parson were separated at birth.

You will probably all know this band for the song Turning Japanese but they had some dark themed songs"The second album was more lyrically varied, with themes including alienation and many dark lyrics about apparently psychotic characters, including the opening track, "Jimmie Jones", about cult leader Jim Jones"

Both their albums are classics, have you even heard them?

dude! actually all their other stuff are pretty damn good and even more better and maybe catchier than turning japanese. the only reason why they were underated and not that big was there was some issues with their manager and production company which prolonged them from advertising much for their other singles and even their albums.

brilliant band, Bruce Foxton from The Jam discovered them in a pub one Sunday afternoon and along with Paul Wellers dad managed them

they were a one hit wonder - none of their other stuff is even 1/4 as good as Turning Japanese

I loved this song for over thirty years. I just found out it was about the cult leader Jim Jones. I still love this song.

And everyone else thought they were a one hit wonder. Its the Clash & Peter Gabriel in a bite-size packet. My whole sense of musicality and dancing are rooted here. ;) Thirty years later, I have purple hair and ride a scooter. The Vapors loved their beat. And I do too... ;)

"Ok who gets to throw the chicken in this time? Hey! He did it the last two times!" :) Such an underated band. Took me forever to find Magnets here in the US, thats is when I finally learned it had actually come out. Great when I finally got it, sad to find it was their last. Thanks for the post! What great songs!
