Despite its friction-themed romantic yearnings, the Three Degrees' "Can't You See What You're Doing to Me" is airy and breezy. Written by Joseph B. Jefferson and Bruce Hawes, bolstered by Richard Rome's supple arrangement, the cut has a charming mid-'70s optimism and lyrically explains the situation point by point with a kind of panache that gives the song's main character a carefreeness that doesn't fall into self pity. The cut was a standout track from the debut LP for Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International Records: 'The Three Degrees' (recently released on CD by Big Break Records).
I extended the song a little and edited the video clip. No copyright infringement intended.
