Looking back I always felt that Florence was done "Dirty" but when you look at Diana Ross performing she had that thing that made you not want to take your eyes off of her. That Legacy still continued with TLC (Lisa Left Eye Lopes) and Beyonce (Destiny's Child).

The supremes was the "it" factor. Diana had the pop commercial sound that Barry was going for and that's why he made diana lead singer. Florence can sing her ass and so could mary, can no take that from them both. Diana had that look and charisma and umph that made the supremes cross over to any crowd! They all can sing and have perfect harmonies together. I really wish people would stop making it like "Diana" was behind this when she wasn't. Barry had a hell of a system and he made millions off it he knew what he was doing. They all had equal opportunity to be what they wanted to be. Pride and egos gotten in the way because diana was made lead and I'm sure alot of people don't know that she didn't want to do it at first and felt Florence had the voice out of the group.

Diana Ross was the consummate performer/entertainer. Look at her in this clip singing live into a boom mic. Only 22 years old in this clip, and nails it in every regard. Neurons firing like crazy, I can just tell that the adrenaline was flooding her brain in this performance. Optimal breathing happening, she was no doubt experiencing the "auto pilot" phenomena that happens with mastered breathing while singing. Outstanding.

On this TV taping of the "Ed Sullivan Show" (1966) backstage was the infamous "bitch slapping" of Diane Ross by Florence Ballard.In the CBS studio dressing rooms as things were brewing up within the group because Diane during their performance in the show cuts into Ed's impromptu conversation with Flo & Mary and she interrupts and takes over the conversation answering the question, backstage they had it off!, Flo gave her the famous CBS, Ed Sullivan Show "Bitch Slap"!Diane was already Berry Gordy's "sex toy" and concubine, the changes in the group were being implemented, the Diane Ross Show (Diane Ross & The Supremes) was about to be shoved down our faces, and Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson & later Cindy Birdsong would be turned into "bookends & artistic shadows" so Diane could ride the coattails of THE SUPREMES into her 1970's "solo career"!Today, in 2015 "The David Letterman Late Night TV Show" is taped in the same location and Diane Ross is remembered as THE BERRY GORDY MOTOWN WHORE!
