I feel fine...

don't wake me up yet

o the young & the old they get everything

& it's my turn

I'm here, I'm someone to know

I'm calling the tune but

I'm losing the words

laughingly I take the fevered applause

of the people by the riverside

I'm walking, walking on water

God knows why

I'm losing the words

I am a man

well nearly

celebrate life, be good to yourself

don't wake me like that

I was dreaming & I'd rather carry on

give me a love & hate on both my hands

I'll show you what I'm made of

wasting my breath when I say that

don't wake me like that

I was dreaming & I'm tired of everyone

here's hoping that you'll

go now so long leave me alone

give me a love & hate on both my hands

I'll show you what I'm made of

wasting my breath when I say that

love hates

a pair of hands

that's where I began

just be good, good to yourself

I feel fine

don't wake me up yet

cos I feel tired

don't be like that

we don't need to work any more now

open that ground up and slip down

I can imagine Morrissey singing this. You can almost hear him in her voice. Damn good music

For me this song is all about dying but not just that. Dying with a sense of pride and peace, knowing that you lived your life to your fullest, greatest capabilities, with no regrets. You're happy with the live you lived, so you're happy with the death that comes. Being at peace with the end, and grasping your last breath, because in that moment, it's all you own and it's yours to keep. To go with pride and dignity is a privilege, it is earned.

Harriet Wheeler is my favorite female vocalist, wish she had been more prolific. Come out of retirement please Harriet!

vert bad and depressing time with this song... it emphasized it but soothed too. I did not feel fine.. except for the tiniest of moments.

That pause, and then that sudden sublime chord a second later . . . just after 0:57, repeats at 2:17 . . . fuck, that's unbelievable. I just see Bugs Bunny winding his fist up like a propeller before unloading a huge smack on Elmer Fudd, blowing him a million feet into the sky. BOOM, you're overwhelmed. Just fuckin' perfect.

Actually janstheman, they didn't disappear till about 5 years after this song was released so I'm not sure how much you can read into why they left based upon the lyrics to I Feel. Regardless I do agree with you "enough" with the incessant calls to "make more music and instead enjoy what we do have"
