I remember at age 19 I decided to get more stoned than I planned to I started hallucinating and didn't know what to do so I put on some music which wasn't mine and this song came on it was weird I started feeling calm and then I began seeing little furry creatures lol

Gold teeth and a curse for this town were all in my mouth.Only, i don't know how they got out, dear.Turn me back into the pet i was when we met.I was happier then with no mind-set.And if you'd 'a took to me likeA gull takes to the wind.Well, i'd 'a jumped from my treeAnd i'd a danced like the king of the eyesoresAnd the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.New slang when you notice the stripes, the dirt in your fries.Hope it's right when you die, old and bony.Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall, never should've called. But my head's to the wall and I'm lonely. And if you'd 'a took to me likeA gull takes to the wind.Well, I'd 'a jumped from my treeAnd I'd a danced like the king of the eyesoresAnd the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.God speed all the bakers at dawn may they all cut their thumbs,And bleed into their buns 'till they melt away.I'm looking in on the good life i might be doomed never to find.Without a trust or flaming fields am i too dumb to refine? And if you'd 'a took to me likeWell i'd a danced like the queen of the eyesoresAnd the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

I'm trying to learn this cool tune. He writes some odd impressionistic lyrics. What is it, stream of consciousness or something. It's a hard song to learn because of the phrasing he uses in his singing style. The chords are pretty easy, though.

Every time I listen to this song, it reminds me of when I was little with little to no self awareness, when I had no control, total innocence and no knowledge of the pain in the world. It's so different when you grow several years. Makes me sad to listen to this song, but I listen to it anyways.

reminds me of uni... probably in my top 3 songs of that time. Especially when an indi club was named after it upon graduation. They would play the song after a live band played (including some unexpected popular and upcoming ones like Fouls) anyway I'd get up on the stage drunk and dance to this as a celebration/commemoration and other regulars who i got to know would join. As the club became more popular they hired bouncers, and they'd politely ask us to get down. Every Tuesday. Now it's only a memory that i can share with two other people.

For some odd reason I like this song. Every time I listen to it, I think of someone.... 5 years ago and I picture us dancing like the king & queen of the eye sores...haha 5 years ago we probly would have done that :p Now, we are too mature for that ( in our heads) :p

I believe I was in preschool or kindergarten when I heard this song. My dad had watched Garden State and like many of you guys commenting, he heard this song and bought The Shins album. What I don't remember is hearing the other songs from the album except New Slang. So whenever my dad would ask me what song I wanted to listen to I would always sing "oooo ooo ooooo" ( I didn't know the name of the song at the time) and he would play it. He was just so happy that I knew the song that he picked me up and held me and started to slow dance. Now being at the age of 15 I still love this song and the fact that it's officially me and my dads song <3. Sadly we don't slow dance to that song very often now, but it's still nice to sing along to it with him :). They are pretty much my favorite band, I never get tired of them, especially on those bus rides home from school. I hope to one day see them in concert... with my dad of course :D
