I played at the French equivalent for Going For Gold and off camera, I aped Paul Westerberg's face at about 1:41 . It probably helped me to win!

There are a few other references in the Replacements Bible (you know about that, right?), but that's the most explicit one. I looked for the Mars interview you mentioned and it's not in there. I'd love to read it. also - the PTMM video/interview where Westerberg explains himself is here on YT, too.

"... “The Ledges’s” video didn’t win any hearts and minds at MTV, which banned it on the dubious grounds that it would encourage suicide (!). How the omnipotent cable music channel gathered that from the video - which featured the band in a room, and not much else - is anyone’s guess, but MTV’s reaction was enough to prod Warner Brothers to produce commercials defending the song, in which Westerberg outlined his intentions." google "goldmine brats in babylon" for the article text.

You're right, they don't count; and no, I'm not citing them. I'm referring to an interview with Chris Mars from Twin Cities Weekly circa 1988. I am not currently able to find it, so I concede that you're *half* right. Still, the burden of proof falls back to you though: where does it state that it was (temporarily) banned due to the song's content as opposed to the video content? And no, Wikipedia doesn't count.

The comments section of blogs and youtube videos don't count. MTV banned this video because of the song's lyrical content, not the video itself. Show me an interview or an article that says otherwise.

This one came first. They reused it for Alex Chilton when MTV refused to play The Ledge.
