1980s era college rock and alternative music was the best genre of music overall.

Funny thing is I was actually listening to a big star song. Then I saw this video and knew I had to watch it. A big influential band making a song about the lead singer of another big influential band that's monumental.

Westerberg and the boys along with Bob Mould's Husker Du were great examples of the MN music scene back in the late '80s. I saw the Replacements in Tuscaloosa AL back in '90 on one of their college tours, great show that lasted about 90 to 100 minutes with open seating so the fraternity boys turned an area of Coleman Coliseum in front of the stage into a slam dance/mosh pit; interesting to watch from the Mezzanine.... The Replacements also played a venue toward downtown called the Chukker a couple of times before they played at the U, I think one time back to back with the Indigo Girls of all bands; talk about a contrast in Indie Rock; the Replacements with their punk roots and the Indigo gal;s with their folk rock sound out of the ATL suburbs. All great concerts. There is simply no replacing bands like the Replacements! Nothing in this era of Indie/Alternative rock can come close to their sound! Thanks for posting this!

The album artwork strangely reminds me of The Moon and Antarctica. I wonder which came first.

I honestly, after listening to #1 Hit Record, hear Big Star's influence more on the Jayhawks than on the Replacements ("I'm gonna be a Big Star... some dayyy!" --also just in their style and sound) But I really love that record, it has so grown on me! I can't believe that as a big a 'mats fans I've been since a young buck that it's taken me this long to latch on to one of their biggest influences. Well, here I am.

Alex Chilton, formerly of The Box Tops with the one hit "Give Me A Ticket For An Airplane". Glad to know my old friend has still got it. We lost touch when I moved out of Memphis in 1976.
