The Replacements - Swingin' Party

Who gives a shit? The Replacements wrote this first and Lorde covered it. That's all that happened. Famous people cover songs all the time and adjust them to the current sound. Both versions are different interpretations of the song and who said that was wrong? I went to Replacements concerts when I was younger and went to their last home show last year. I love the Replacements. I don't listen to Lorde as much but she has a beautiful voice and good taste in music. Can't we just respect both of them? They're both talented artists. People are just jealous that Lorde's version got more popular. Of course hers will! She's a mainstream artist who knows what people like to listen to! The Replacements could've been famous but Paul was too much of an asshole and they'd rather be drunk than play a decent show. And that's on them, not Lorde.

Lorde's version is pretty nice. Leave the girl alone. Let her do her thing.

the original seems too upbeat for the lyrics in my opinion

Can we all just get along? Reasonable people will see that Lorde paid tribute to the great songwriter and artist Paul Westerberg by recording this incredible song. I'm positive Paul is honored that she did, I'm very pleased that a whole new generation gets to hear this and other great Replacement's songs. Rock on Lorde, rock on Mat's.

We want young people to dig the Classics. Then they do and you crucify them. Let's hear your version. Lorde is a real good songwriter. Sorry she's young and female....losers.

I like both versions in different situations. Lorde is very sombre and this version is a very chill upbeat. Listening to both songs back to back would be fine. I respect both versions.

Lorde fans don't come to this fucking page to say you like her version better. I don't care about your opinion neither does any Replacements fan so if you like it better great stay over on that side and shut the fuck up over on ours.

I generally prefer older rock music over modern pop but I enjoy lorde's version quite a bit. The tone she gave it matched the lyrics more in my opinion. Both are great though. And you should automatically expect younger people to enjoy the newer version. This sounds outdated and cheesy to them. I don't like all this bickering and fighting over a song. It's not like now that she covered it, this version is gone forever. Listen to what you like.
