The Progressions were a band from around the Baltimore, Maryland area that was formed in 1963. At the time of this recording, the group consisted of members Charles Richard "Ricky" Peters (Vocals, Drums), Trudy Morgal (Vocals, Drums), Walt Bailey (Bass, Vocals), Skip Herbert (Lead Guitar), and Carl Brooks (Rhythm Guitar, Keys). The two songs that were released by the group on the Scepter record label in May of 1966 were produced by Tommy Kaye with session man Hugh McCraken on Guitar and Harmonica. Ricky and Trudy would trade off on the drums when the other would be fronting the group.

After the Progressions had a change in lineup, Trudy Morgal (Trudy Cooper), Rick Peters, and Walt Bailey joined up with Bob Grimm and changed their name to Light. Trudy, Rick and Bob would perform together in other various groups later on as well.

Ricky Peters died in May of 1998 from liver failure at the age of 49. Trudy Morgal still lives in the North Beach, MD area. I can find no info on Skip Herbert or Carl Brooks. Walt Bailey seems to have still been performing with Trudy Morgal as of a couple of years ago so he may also still be in the Baltimore area.

This lip synched performance was recorded for an episode of the Ronnie Dove Show which aired on Channel 2 in Baltimore (which may have been WMAR at the time, I am not sure), from what I've been able to find out. The epsiode was filmed June 28, 1966 however I do not know when it actually aired.

In 2013, Trudy Cooper Morgal and Walt Bailey were inducted into the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame, as was this show's host, Ronnie Dove, for his own legendary career as a performer.

They played on Greenmount Ave at Judges which eventually became Mother Lode's Wild Cherry. They went thru various changes, hippie VW vans, Light, Touch, Flow, etc. Great nucleus to that group. I knew some of them from the neighborhood. Great people.

Wow, that's my Uncle Skip. God..I wish I had knew him better. I mean, I did know him and went to family parties and such and he was just the most interesting person EVER. I'm honored to be his niece (by marriage although heh).

Blast from the past is an understatement and made my day. Thanks for sharing! Shout out to Trudy from Renee (Cignus days ST.V), now from deep in the heart of Texas.

I thought this was gone forever! I'm one of the guys in this video along with Skip Herbert, Walt Bailey, Ricky Peters and Trudy Morgal. Thank you Slackerproductions for posting it. Sadly, Ricky and Skip have passed. They would have been as thrilled as I am to see it.

I don't remember this group, but one of my friends really liked "Light". We saw them several times, in the Baltimore 'burbs, in the late 60's.

Yes I have the master 2" video reel for two full episodes (the only two known surviving episodes) and gave them to Ronnie on DVD as a birthday present. Ronnie put them on another DVD and is selling them, except this song was not included, probably because they were not a nationally known group. I was asked by Ronnie not to put other clips on youtube for now. Maybe in the future. The DVD Ronnie sells is not as high quality as this clip is, so you know I have the original master video.
