Sophisticated Boom Boom - the Shadow Morton Story !

Go to amazon and type in 'Red Bird Girls In True Stereo', which features a song written by Shadow Morton. I also did 'The Ad-Libs: The Complete Blue Cat Recordings'. I compiled and did notes for these reissues. all I claimed is that her vocals are double-tracked...I did not mention anything else in regards to music production and/or engineering. All you need to do is listen to the vocal to determine whether or not a vocal is doubled.

By the way 'I did not bring up Ga Ga' is a stupid statement to make seeming as you specifically mentioned a particular song and broached the subject matter. I could go on all day picking apart your weak and feeble idiotic minded attempts to justify your remarkably ignorant comments but unlike you I have a life to lead so I'll finish by saying have a nice life, now go and do some 'remasters'

Please point us to some of your amazing rematsers then so we can all have a listen and judge, seeming as that's what you like to do, pontificate, obsfucate and generally critique others work you dong. People like you are rife on the internet. Small minded and pompous twats who have nothing better to do with their time than make guesses about others work. You still didn't answer my question about whether you were at the recording session, thereby making your initial comment irrelevant.

I did not bring up GaGa...my response was a reply. And if you can not tell just by listening that this woman's voice is double-tracked, then you are an idiot. I compile and remaster 60's girl group music in Stereo...so I actually have a pretty good idea of what I am talking about. You, didn't care to read the previous responses that I was replying to. You are an immature ass.

What amazes me is that you seem certain of the facts. Were you there at the recording of that vocal recording session in 1966? I severely doubt it, if so, then why make an uneducated guess (because that's what you are doing) and then compare a recording session from 1966 to one from the present day. It's like comparing Rothko to Damian Hirst and is totally unimportant. Stop being stupid with your guess work and idle Ga Ga comparisons. And just for your info, none one cares if you like her.

Mature. I was simply stating facts. It hardly warranted such an immature reply. Young singers' and idols' voices were often double tracked and/or blended with other singers in order to smooth out tonal errors and vocal deficiencies. Not much different to how we now use autotune to smooth out errors. Some performers use vocal augmentation, and others don't. Its just a reality.

Mary Weiss doesn't sing lead on the Shangri-Las' version, Betty does.

Yeah, not a bad cover, way better than the Pussy cats. Gotta agree with others here that the Shangri Las is massive drama and heartbreaking. For me a better all over rendition of Mortons classic. But thanks for this rarity....

@TheLimePopsicle The vocals on this song are double tracked...so they aren't exactly natural sounding either. Lady GaGa's voice in unaltered in her song "You And I", which is quite good actually.

@TheLimePopsicle Autotune, man. Greatest plague the industry has known since Lawrence Welk.

I do like this version a lot. There's something special about Mary Weiss's voice though that makes the Shangri-Las version the best.

@nipsterstang There exists another version recoreded as "Dressed In Black" by the Pussycats...and it's really good; you might like it better than this one. Sometimes it just depends on which version one hears first (and gets used to) . So far I've been unable to locate the Pussycats' version on YT.

@nipsterstang If she did, it would sound like a weird computer surrealist song which made little sense. Have you noticed that most voices on pop tunes today are so electronically altered that it really sounds like you are listening to robots and computers performing instead of real people? I think folks have gotten so used to it that they no longer notice the difference.
