So much fun! Elliott and Greg jamming with Todd and Kasim, plus Prairie Prince in skins. Awesome lineup. Greg Hawkes was the reason I started playing in bands. The Cars' first album came out when I turned 16 and got out of high school, and suddenly every band in my town needed a keyboardist.

I remember rolling my eyes at the idea of "The New Cars." But then, seven years later, I finally hear this song (in the "Todd" documentary) and, well ... how wrong I was.

Good song..except lyrically, I think it lacked the irony and wit of Ric Ocasek..that's what I loved the most about The Cars

Todd has more talent than Ric and Ben combined.

I have noticed some web sites doing that, but in the credits on my copy of It's Alive, all three originals are credited only to Rundgren, Easton, and Hawkes. I think it's just an error that has multiplied. Ric had nothing to do with the tune.

I liken this song to "Learning to Fly" by the band legally known as Pink Floyd. Perhaps it's not an artistically-GENUINE Cars song, but it is a "fair forgery", and a good-spirited one at that. Their hearts are in the right place, even if the lyrics don't come close to Ric Ocasek's poetry. Not only was I already a Todd fan, but Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes both did solo albums proving they could compose good music. I had high hopes for a full album of all originals. Never gonna happen now!

Ocasek actually has a writing credit on this song with Rundgren and Easton and Hawkes.

Rundgren sounds amazingly like Ric Ocasik on all "The Cars" Tracks where Ric would normally be singing on this album. allmusic review and song samples: allmusic. com /album/its-alive!- mw0000409195

Not long after this Ric did join them to retake his place and cut a new album. If you haven't checked out the album you should. It's like they didn't miss a beat.

You have three of the very best 70s/80s bands right there together; Cars, Utopia and Tubes ! How cool is that ! :-)

The New Cars consisted of Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sultan (Utopia), Greg Hawkes, Prairie Prince (The Tubes), and Elliot Easton.
