Roy Wood is a legend. There is lesser singer songwriters parading around being called Sir this or Sir that. Its about time he got what he deserves.Lets start a page on Facebook and get one of England's finest a knighthood.

@Absinthe& Joe Happy - I was mugged in Liverpool in 1990 and it destroyed my illusion of the place and the people and it caused a rancid bitterness about it. However, over the course of time, I met people from the town and on an individual basis I found they made up for what was lost. Here's hoping you get to meet people from Brum Joe rather than in it as it might restore your sense of happiness :) Best Wishes - James

Sorry to hear about your horrible experience. Perhaps I have been lucky as I have never had any bad experiences in Birmingham. I always have great experiences wherever I go. I pass on good vibes to you.

It was..., i agree, i am Scottish, went to Birmingham for a gig in 1999 at the Carling Venue and was swamped and robbbed by blacks afterwards, not at all what i imagined would happen to me in Birmingham having listened to ELO and Jeff Lynne all my life, had this sort of 'rosie' Brummie niceness going on..... things have changed for the worse.

Yeh but Chinatown and California Man are Roy Wood songs, that's why they are on the CD..i agree its a bit odd 10538 Overture and Down on the Bay appear..Jeff Lynne songs..I can only think the compiler hadn't researched the project carefully

The Sound of Young Birmingham. Soundtrack for the best city in the universe - along with ELO, the fortunes, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Ozzy and the eternally wonderful Birmingham Outlaws MC. SYLO.

@davekm43 That'd be awesome as all are still with us. The time is so right for it!

@crapple009 I believe he may have, but I think it might have been later than that, which may have been the reason Jeff waited till 2001 to release the Zoom album, but I do try to keep out of the politics between the group members and enjoy the music.

@davekm43 Didn't Bev sell his half of the ELO name to Jeff back in the 80's? I believe I read that somewhere. If true, Bev has no claims to the name at all, which is a shame as he should've retained it. After all ELO's a name worth holding onto.

@locojets Yeah I see your point, same with "China Town" & "California Man" although his vocal is more obvious on these 2 tracks being duets, they are mainly Jeff Lynne tracks.

@davekm43 Still... They weren't his own tracks... It's sort of like a kelly groucutt greatest hits having all of the songs he backed on. He didn't sing lead on these tracks. Only a wee bit of a section in 10538 overture, and on down on the bay I don't even hear him. The only thing that could be Roy In down on the bay wouyld be the super cool elvis talk in the end.... I just thinkthat it is rather silly to have those tracks on HIS greatest hits...

@locojets Roy actually sang on these tracks, I did not know this myself till recently, 10538 Overture was also originally planned to be a "B" side to a single by The Move.

Why are there two Jeff Lynne tracks (Down on the bay & 10538 overture) on this CD?
