It's amazing how sad that song made me. The song about the tragic love life of a flea.

i had this album when i was a teenager and completely forgot about it until today. that's a very long time to forget a song i liked so much.

This song charted in the US in October 1966, and released by a band called The Sidekicks. Their version was softer and slower. I didn't know until now that The Hollies also released this, and had no idea that Graham Nash wrote it. I prefer the Sidekicks version, purely from personal nostalgia. Thank you for posting this.

To me, this is typical Graham Nash at his eclectic best. Never one to fall back on tried and trusted formulae. As hauntboy says there are echos of Sleep Song and in my opinion On The Line reverberates somewhere in there too. But, ItsAllAboutnash as usual, hits the proverbial nail on the head.

@popitinpete ... Actually, quite nice - the slow version by PR. It has a circus type sound (harpsichord).

@ther51 I never heard Paul Ryan's version. I would imagine a slower tempo would add sentiment to the song. That might not suit Nash & the boys who are a gritty Manc band for whom understatement works well. Of course I am not in a position to comment on a recording I never heard...will look for it.

Here, let me help you here...ther51 said this song seemed to fast...Nash wrote it and was the first to record it...I figure he got the tempo he wanted. I really can't figure out what you were gettinga at. Cheers!

I actually first heard this by The Everly Brothers on their 'Two Yanks In England' LP (essential listening for all Hollies fans as it features 8 of their songs!). I like both versions equally though.

heh...Graham wrote this...I figure he has the correct tempo here.
