I can't imagine a group less likely to enjoy playing outdoors in the afternoon.

A very British band... which will explain the bemusement in the crowd.

I mean. I mean, really. I'm not exactly eighteen anymore, and of all the strange things I've listened to in the past 25 years, whatever it is Mark Smith does certainly counts among the most strangest. And I mean that as a compliment!

As for the crowd in Oslo, all power to them and their casual laidback reception. Rabidly enthusiastic crowds remind me of brainwashed cows in pens at a slaughterhouse. Music is meant to be enjoyed, not injected into one's brain like a stimulant. Besides, it's Mark E Smith here not someone truly brilliant. He's just a lucky drunk who can turn a good phrase with quite a bit of help from studio producers. Great guy, but do crowds go wild for his schtick? I've never seen that happen in his concerts live, but I have truly enjoyed going to see The Fall a few times. Original band and cool lyrics some of the time. As for Smith's delivery into the mic, well, I've also heard Bob Dylan. I pretty much put them neck to neck in the category of oft unintelligible gibberish. Last time I saw Bob live he was much better. That was back in 2007.

Elena's stoicism is dangerous. She is so drop dead gorgeous; her lack of emotion and blank disinterested stares are truly hot, although I know not why. What part of Germany is she from? I want to go find another one there.

"We're not about to do a free-form Jazz exploration in front of a festival crowd".
