#danthemanplaylists LYRICS:Had a dreamYou and me and the war of the end timesAnd I believeCalifornia succumbed to the fault lineWe heaved reliefAs scores of innocents diedAnd the Andalusian tribesSetting the lay of Nebraska alight'Til all that remains is the arms of the angelPetty greedQueen of supply-side bonhomie bone-drabYou know what I meanOn the roadIt's well advised that you follow your own bagIn the year of the chewable Ambien tabAnd the Panamanian childStands at the Dowager Empress's sideAnd all that remains is the arms of the angelAnd all that remains is the arms of the angelsAnd you've receded into loamAnd they're picking at your bonesWill call coldWe'll come homeQuiet nowWill we gather to conjure the rain down? Will we nowBuild a civilization below ground? And I'll be crowned the community kick-it-aroundAnd the Andalusian tribesSetting the lay of Nebraska alight'Til all that remains is the arms of the angels'Til all that remains is the arms of the angels

It's not so much grim, as witty. Even if your politics don't agree with those of the Decemberists. It's about Palin and her (supposed) evangelical, apocalyptic views. And, to a lesser extent, McCain. The Panamian child is McCain. The Dowager Empress is Palin.

For all non Whovians, "war of the end times" = Time War. If more clarification is needed, just watch the show. It's worth it anyway.

I'm thinking it's more Infinite Jest than Supernatural or Doctor Who but that's just me. ;)

I believe that the song was about ESCHATON.

I believe Infinite Jest was an influence for the song. There is an article about this song and DFW on NPR's All Things Considered online edition.
