"He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)" by The Crystals. The song didn't receive much airplay, a lot of people protested it as a song that endorsed domestic abuse.

Smart song, few will understand the different perspective this song has on love and violence

I prefer the Hole cover of this. Courtney Love sells it better.

Comment posted by Neil Shaw (below) is correct that this song was not written to glorify abusive relationships. Writer producers Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote the song after learning that their babysitter was being regularly beaten by her boyfriend. When he asked her why she tolerated the abuse, she explained that her boyfriend beat her because he loved her and she gave the typical excuses used by abused spouses to protect their abusive mates.Arranger Phil Spector gave the song the macabre sound to emphasize the dark subject of the lyrics. The song is, indeed creepy. As baffling as abusers are, even more baffling and creepy are the victims who stay with these abusers and protect them so that they may continue with the demented relationship of codependent

I wanna know how hard it was to have this song released on the radio-how much it took to get released as a single.I find the shrill of the violins as maniacal pleasure as if it was Tim Burton's score of music. Very interesting and great, clever creativity!
