The next day, they fired Crosby. But kept the winner of the Brian Jones Lookalike Contest.

I love the way Crosby looks over to Hillman with that giant smile as if to say, I'm really digging the way these chords and notes are just trebling, sparkling, shimmering, and exploding out of the amplifiers; I just love doing this tune and this sounds GREAT!Playing loud, with that kind of tone and arpeggiating the chords is so the coolest!Arpeggiating...? Can I say that? LMAO...NEVER play a straight chord! It is such a puss'd-out thing to do.

I like talking about the Byrds, so. Subjective: those were both great albums, but I think that "Fifth Dimension" was my favorite. Less subjective: The original lineup was super, and its '73 reunion was neat, but the whole '68 meltdown with Crosby did happen for certain reasons. For example, David basically drove Michael Clarke out of the band-- drove him to quit-- by treating him like an asshole. That actually happened before the remaining members fired Crosby. Anyway. Byrds are great.

The Byrds were the coolest band. "Younger" & "Notorious" were the coolest albums. This four guys were amazing. Anyone who can't see this has not the level not the taste it requires & I'm sorry & don't care. Pd: Letting go of David was dumb. You just don't fuck with chemistry like this. Crosby, Stills & Nash & The Flying Burrito Brothers & The Ballad of Easy Rider were all awesome but the Byrds flew higher. The Byrds was King.

Compared to some of the early Byrds live performances I thought the vocals were pretty good here and I have no vendetta against Crosby-but what do I know and what do you cats know?

I have never heard anyone make a 12 string sing like McGuinn can.

Around the same time when the Monterey Pop Festival occured in 1967; The Doors, Captain Beefheart, and the Steve Miller Blues Band played at the Mt. Tamalpais' amphitheater also in June of 1967. It was there that STP (Serenity, Tranquility, Peace) was being handed out to acidheads. 1967 was a good year up until summer. That's when reports of rapes, murders, beatings, overdoses, and robberies began. The Byrds took Dylan's and Seeger's songs and made them sound better. We still dig The Byrds.

Sunset Strip '66-68; B Springfield, the Doors, the Mothers, the Byrds.. Cars easing down the Strip with tambourines wired to their wheels, chika-chika-chika.. Weed $60@ pound, $75 a kg.. Acid was free.. Coke hadn't arrived.. The L.A. Free Press.. The first note of McGuinn's guitar rang out like a chapel bell.. Still ringing here..............

Crosby and McGuinn were like Lennon and McCartney great musicians with big egos.
