Not yet on YT published song of The Byrds from 1971. Lyrics see below.

Written by Skip Battin and Kim Fowley

One of America's great national pastimes

Is drinking a Coke

Taking a smoke

Telling a joke

One of America's great national pastimes

Is playing ball

Taking it all

And thinking so small

But the great taste of Coke has refreshed players

The hot and tired

The weary and the sore

But the great taste of coke has refreshed players

The hot and tired

The weary and the sore

One of America's great national pastimes

Is chocolate fudge

Carrying a grudge

Bribing a judge

One of America's great national pastimes

Is poisoning rain

Acting insane

Inflicting pain

But the great taste of Coke has refreshed players

The hot and tired

The weary and the sore

The great taste of Coke has refreshed players The hot and tired

The weary and the..

One of America's great national pastimes

Is the worship of speed

Planting her seeds

Taking more than she needs

One of America's great national pastime

Is cutting the grass

Grabbing some ass

Living too fast

But the great taste of coke has refreshed players The hot and tired

The weary and the sore

The great taste of Coke has refreshed players

The hot and tired

The weary and the sore

I had never heard this song in my life until 2015 lol...but I like it a certain type of novelty but good music and decent lyrics, did it ever get played on Dr. Demento? Maybe not with the 'Grabbin some ass' lyrics.

It is election day night and the ballots will be counted and, unless certain states allow dead voters to vote Democratic, we should see a Red State landslide. And why you might ask? No, Ben Cardin you ineffective racist putz, not because Barack is black, it is because he is incompetent. Barack seems like one of the nicest guys in the world and I wish one can just sit down for about fifteen minutes or so and talk sports or music with him, like one of the guys or gals we talk to around the water cooler. Forget politics for once. I disagree with virtually everything he has done politically, but the man is likeable. As for Joe Biden, he would make a great stand up comedian. And after Barack retires as President, I would like to see him star in a movie or television show playing the role of the President of the United States. But I do not want Michele to play his wife. I want Susan Rice. She would be my selection. And there would be quite a few others in the White House (I would place Judd Hirsch in the role of the Vice President), the press, the Congress, the Joint Chiefs, the many antagonists (terrorists but we cannot call them that) and this movie or television show would be seen by tens of millions of viewers. Maybe more viewers than "Scandal". Because, you see, watching television or going to the movies is "One of America's Great National Pastimes" as are several other bits and pieces of Americana as related to us by The Byrds at # 3297.

These guys were so much smarter than the crappy country artists we have these days, too many distorted, right wing views floating around that America is the God's country.

One of their (subversive?) best! Anyone know if the story about Coca-Cola rejecting this tune as an advert is true? Myth or fact?

Good point, thanks for that. There is a lot of irony in lyrics and probably a goal of such song could be warning, how the pastimes shouldn't be - doesn't matter what country.
