Okay, now that we're all here. What band had the beginings of the Country/Rock genre?

On leave from the Air Force for a month and this song was constantly played on KINK-FM. Imagine my surprise when I got to Tokyo and they were two steps ahead? My girlfriend ,soon to be my wife, bought me this LP. She was not real happy that I wasn't a Bowie fan, etc but we dealt with it

It's a beautiful song, well played, well sung, with fine harmonies. Who cares if there is no 12 string Rick in it? Give me a break, though most of them did, NOT ALL early Byrds songs had a prominent 12 string Rick. Just listen to Younger than yesterday.

You know you've been a Byrd fan since the beginning if you can remember when Roger's name was Jim.

Great song, and perfect example of how Gene was the best songwriter of the original band. What's odd, is that this version, on the ill-fated Byrds reunion, doesn't have the prominent 12 string. The version on Gene's great, lost Roadmaster lp, does have it featured beautfully! And I do believe it's McGuinn on that one, since I'm pretty certain reading in Gene Clark's bio that it was Gene's former bandmates showing up to play on Gene's album which prompted the reunion album. The Roadmaster version sounds more like classic Byrds.

Gene did most of the original writing initially. By virtue of his contributions the band wasn't solely dependent on Dylan compositions. That fact is too often overlooked.

I agree with 'Byrdfan' concerning this song. You cannot compare it with Gene's solo albums, for the simple reason that this is not a Gene Clark album but a Byrds album. The song is taken from the reunion album "Byrds" (1973).

jsj909, I understand your comment, but I do respectfully disagree. As someone who has been a Byrds fan since 1965, the vocals you hear here are exactly what I wanted to hear again, 40+years ago, and even now to this day. When I think of The Byrds, at least the orginal version, and imho the ONLY real version, I think of the 12 string Ric, and the harmonies of Crosby. In this LP the Ric is missing. The harmonies are not!!

David Crosby is totally OVERSINGING on this version, and basically ruins the song with his totalling inappropriate background vocals. The Roadmaster version is far superior. This is an introspective, personal song, not some cowboy yodeling competition.

Hi jmcab69: Try searching Byrd's Greatest Hits 1967. The full album is posted on You Tube. It's a very good introduction to the early and best (I think) lineup of the Byrds. You make a very good point about the actions of copyright holders and I agree with you.

We all live within the sacred circle. We have just forgotten. No worries. When traveling in a circle one aways comes back to oneself.

I was just going through the top tracks for the byrds, so i could actually hear some of their material since they are before my time. And sme blocked most of it! if they own the rights to it good job on making sure it dies with the baby boomers, because the internet is how this generation checks EVERYTHING out
