Love the classic country song like this one. Still the best music around. Goodbye Jim Ed Brown, and thanks for entertaining us for all those years.

Incredible, but having become obsessed with this song, the profession of the lamplighter, and this particular version of the song by The Browns just within the last 2 weeks(listening to it endlessly) I happened to be driving in my car , and following the conclusion of this song on a CD, I turned on NPR radio and to my astonishment the show was finishing up with a feature on the profession of "the lamplighter" followed by the playing of this very song. The announcer quipped, "it just shows you that there is a song about every profession" but for me it was really some coincidence, having never heard any version of this song on the radio before let alone this one by The Browns. What a pleasant surprise to a very unusual week...

Isn't this wonderful? Unfortunately "The Old Lamplighter Inn" in Sayville, New York is no more, but this song brings back memories of a time I really never knew.
