First heard this visiting Bruce Poli at Bard College when it came out and Smoke Signal's always been my favorite-played it on my University Radio show-loved that Van the Man sang with them, but never satisfied with that Belfast Cowboy outing . . . the Brown Lp is hands down the best

I have to heartily disagree with the general pessimism about Cahoots. This album ( yes I said it ) shows a lot of maturity in terms of song structure and sophistication with the arrangement without being over produced. Having a predilection for songs by any band that have not died a million deaths with overexposure on radio, Cahoots has some of my all time favorite tunes. You can't get better than Volcano and Shoot Out in China Town. Word.

For my taste, the best Band album. And Volcano is one of my favorite songs of all time, mostly for the horns, but also for the down and dirty lyrics.

the variety on cahoot's has always intrigued me. i never quite understood the hatred towards it, as i prefer it over island and stage fright.

I'm like an alley cat up here without a lick of sense. Some excellent horn work by Allan Touissant. Cahoots is not of the stronger efforts by The Band but still has some classic tracks.
