Track 11 off of 99 Songs of Revolution, Volume I. Streetlight Manifesto's cover of Such Great Heights by The Postal Service.

Lyrics:

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles

In our eyes are mirror images and when

We kiss they're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate that God himself

Did make us into corresponding shapes like

Puzzle pieces from the clay

And true, it may seem like a stretch, but

Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled

Head when you're away when I am missing you to death

When you are out there on the road for

Several weeks of shows and when you scan

The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great

Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say

But everything looks perfect from far away,

'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your

Machine but the persistent beat it sounded

Thin upon listening

And that frankly will not fly. You will hear

The shrillest highs and lowest lows with

The windows down when this is guiding you home

I think we can all agree that all of the covers are pretty good. Except the confide one

I love both versions, but Streetlight Manifesto lacks the 'sweetness' of the original by Postal Service. Nonetheless, great cover by Streetlight Manifesto!

I like this version better than The Postal Service's version.

The original version of this isn't by The Postal Service, it's by Iron and Wine.

This is simply the best cover of this song. Then again I am a biased ska-junkie.

Covering a song is really hard, because if you do it your own way, like Streetlight Manifesto and Confide both did, then people can easily criticise it for not suiting the song. But if you make it too similar to the original, people will say you just copied it and didn't try to make it original.

The Postal Service does the best version of this song. This version has a nice sound, but it's too brash for this song, it looses it's sweetness. And Confide's cover is just too agressive for this song. Postal Service has the best version because the sound goes with the song.

I always feel that this version of the song makes the idea of the 'Great Heights' falling down is that they are on the ground, watching everyone higher up collapse; sort of the opposite of the impression the original gave me. I like that.

There are so many different genres of this same song. I think CONFIDE's cover is just as good as Vitamin String Quartet, Postal Service, Streetlight Manifesto, and whatever other versions are out there! 8O
