This is a fine live studio performance that was broadcast on FM radio in 1974.

(Video clips were taken from '73 midnight special performance)

Saw them in April '74 at the U. of Toledo Fieldhouse. Skunk, Denny, Michael McDonald on keyboards and backing vocals and doing all the best songs from their first three albums. One year or so later my wife and I were watching Skunk playing with The Doobie Brothers at Bowling Green State U.

The Palmer footage is unfortunate, as it is inaccurate and takes away from a great effort and idea. Other than that, kudos.

I wish the video coincided with the audio

i love Hodder, but i think that here there are two drummers... and the other one, thinking to the Steely history, it's Porcaro. I listen the two, i.e., on the fill at 1:22. Do you think different??

Even if I respectfully disagree w/ you assessment of the '90s and forward live SD gigs; Yes, this is great - a live performance they did at now defunct LA radio station KMET's studios in the spring of 1974. You should also search on you tube for the bootleg 'Memphis Blues Again' , from the same period - some killing performances.

no it's not! it's Dennis Dias, one of the 2 guitar players of the beginning of Steely Dan, the vother one was the Skunk, alias Jeff Baxter. first class guitar players as always!

Great job synching the video.

yeah - agree. It's tough to top their studio recordings, but certain live recordings such as this cut have enough spontaneity and energy that they successfully take on the studio version.

I must be crazy too because this is the one and ONLY instance where I've heard a live perfomance of Steely Dan's that I like better than the studio - as much as I love them, I think they're terrible in concert - saw them in '93 and am glad I can say "I saw Steely Dan", but I was not impressed

Video is something else, the audio is from the bootleg of the KMET radio station special they did in 1974's Pretzel Logic tour @ the L.A. Record Plant .
