"Right Me Up" Lyrics:

....why so many, why so many, why? [x8]

Manny don't need no comforting

He don't ask of the world to bring him up

Ain't gonna see him waitin' on waitin' on

Waitin' on the day

Got him a chair in '73

It was his only option

So many agreed

Same chair he has today

Since they threw the cane away

Manny wasn't doing nothing

He just doing his own thing

You know it getting pretty cold out

By the jub jub swing

Oh this friend today

Right me up

Oh this friend today

Right me up

I'm not so weak

Manny gonna go where the rabble go

He gonna roll down the world

And he bring me up

Ain't going to see him

Giving into the others way

Cause they may beat us in search

But our fall is unstained

You know he says it won't be long

Till we are up again

Having another swing

And many wasn't doing nothing

He just doing his own thing

Yeah know it gettin' pretty cold

But he the one who bring

Oh this friend today

Right me up

Oh this friend today

Right me up

I'm not so weak

'cause the bottles not empty

'cause your voices are all there

My life will fight in my body for air

'cause the bottle's not empty

'cause your voices are all there

My life will fight in my body for air

Oh this friend today

Right me up

Oh this friend today

Right me up

I'm not so weak

Manny we gonna get that a.m. dial just right

I'll hold that hanger up

I don't know the specifics on the video, but How's Your News started as a summer camp project for individuals with disabilities. The group were the subject of a '99 documentary, have had a TV show, and documented the 2012 presidential election. State Radio spent a summer working with HYN because...the world can be an exceptionally wonderful place at times? Anyway if you're interested howsyournews (dot com) has more info and videos

This song is so powerful, and in combination with the video, it lets me know there is still hope for mankind

Glad to know there are more enlightened people out there than just me. These ignorant people are what we get when we don't make education a priority!

This song is beautiful

From the video, it seems that Manny is a friend of the band, with some sort of mental/physical handicap. The song appears to have been written to honor the fact that he doesn't let this stop him from enjoying life.

I get what you mean, but I can sorta see why Mr. McPherson down there took your statement the wrong way. I really do agree, though; I think we could all do with a day in the shoes of someone most people consider to be handicapped, or less able than the average person.

Why? Because State Radio wanted to honor a friend of theirs with what many consider a handicap, and show those people that just because someone is different, they aren't any less of a human being than you, me, or anyone else on this planet. Some say that people with "handicaps" like Manny can't be as happy as "normal" people, but really, he looks a lot happier than I am most of the time, and I only wish I could see the world through his eyes for a day, and see how beautiful things really are.

The thing is, it's not all black and white, morality-wise. Sure, some would use the right to have an abortion as a way to prevent the birth of someone with a disability, but in cases of rape, or outright accidents, like birth control failing, abortion /should/ be at the mother's discretion. You can't force someone to have a child that they either can't support or aren't prepared to take care of. We can blame the mothers, sure, but I'd rather leave the hate to angry conservatives.

Still does, too. These guys deserve a damn medal for making songs like this. This is one of those videos that everyone needs to see at least once, because it'll likely make them think a bit more before they think badly of someone with a "handicap." I used quotes there, because looking at Manny's expressions in this, I don't see a single thing wrong with him. If he's just as happy as anyone else, who are we to say that he, or anyone else, is not "normal" because they're a bit different?
