I just discovered Stan Rogers today! I must say I am shocked to say the least. Manly men, yes, but.... mighty dense in the mind department. Haven't a care, clue or concern about what makes women happy. Now if that's all there is my friend... then let's keep dancing!! EW !

This is the song my daughter wants me to sing to her at bedtime. It started when she was tiny, and was having a very fussy night. I ran out of lullabies to sing to her, and this was the first song to pop into my head. It's been one of her favourites ever since.

LOL, John Roberts and Tony Barrand did this song. And the "blow high, blow low" phrase was used by Burl Ives in at least one song; I hadn't realized how similar Stan sounds in certain ways. Great singers all!

I don't think any other version could compare. This is the optimal tempo for this song, in my opinion. Solas did a version that I though was horrid, they screached it out like nails on a chalk board.

@sunflowerling774 The Once's rendition of this is pretty good - it's a little more rollicking.

Thanks for this, my Dad played Stan throughout my child hood, and I have always been grateful for that!

Always loved this one. My grandmother used to sing it, and I was so delighted to find it on the 'Fogarty's Cove' album. Ah, Stan, I wish you could have stayed with us.

A great song. Great sound and rhythm, You don't see this sort of talent to much anymore. Pity.
