The live performance is not overshadowed by Elaine's loss of her voice at the finish. A great comeback not to mention a fine rare sequence of this 1967 song. From Murray the K Special "Live in New York in 1967

My dad knew her! He was a chicago cop and Spanky and co. played a club in his district regularly.

On this day in 1967 {June 18th} Spanky and Our Gang performed "Sunday Will Never Be The Same" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... One month earlier on May 20th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 though it only stayed on the Top 100 for 8 weeks... It reached #7 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart... R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974} and Happy Birthday to Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane, who turns 72 years old tomorrow {June 19th}...

We too love this song. If I had the money I would start a oldie but goodie station. I thrive on music like this. Thanks for posting John and Byron

It's too bad The Velvet Underground and Nico never covered this song.

Love this song and adore this lady's voice. So sad that all of the oldies stations are going by way of the pay phone.

One of the best songs I have ever heard even though I really did not realize it until the last few years. I was stationed in Korea and this song was out in either 1966-67 and it always stayed in my mind. Each time I hear it, I am 18-19 years old again.

Question: was the source footage recorded on videotape? It sure looks like early color video although the technical quality is kind of crude; in any case with videotape being so expensive in those days (an era when TV studios routinely erased and reused tape to save money) I'm surprised that they elected to record--and keep for posterity--a rough rehearsal like this. I'm grateful that they did!

I swear that her and Cass Elliot had the most pure, sweet and truly soulful voices you could ever hope to find in a female singer.

My favorite '60's tune- for me it personifies the "Summer Of Love" & 1967 in all it's glory.

Beautiful voice Elaine had- embodies the "Summer Of Love" & late '60's to me!

Classic song, ending just shows, not all groups lip synched in the 60's. Seen some pretty wild attempts to pass for non lip synching though.

Wonderful. Makes me feel like the 9 year old I was in 67 again. These days singers have bottled water on stage for just such dry moments.
