Sonny must be seen to truly appreciate what is going on on that Strat fretboard! He typically plays smaller venues so the up close & personal is obtainable. Joe Bonamassa said it best when he described Sonny as "a freak of nature" - no one plays slide like this man - a true genius!!8 years ago

Sonny is from Canton, Mississippi and grew up in Lafayette, La.The bass player is Dave Ranson. I believe Sonny and Dave have been playing together since high school in the late 1960s.Check out John Mayhall's album, A Sense of Place. Sonny & the Goners back up the blues legend and Mayhall does a couple of Sonny's tunes.9 years ago
