Happy Birthday Clyde Vernon "Sonny" Landreth (born February 1, 1951)] is an American blues musician from southwest Louisiana who is especially known as a slide guitar player. He was born in Canton, Mississippi, and settled in Lafayette, Louisiana. He lives in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Landreth is known as "the King of Slydeco" and plays with a strong zydeco influence. Guitarist Eric Clapton has said that Landreth is one of the most advanced guitarists in the world and one of the most under-appreciated. - wiki

One of my favourite live performances of Sonny Landreth. The drummer you see in the background is Doug Belote. He hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. This is his first really important gig. He was asked by Sonny Landreth to fill the spot and tells the story of how he was really shaking when about to play in front of 50,000 people. He says, "I'm thinking, Eric Clapton just told me to count it off with 50,000 people watching." What a great story!

Wow. I haven't seen Clapton play like this in years. Starting at about 2:20 he's basically playing parts of the solo from the live version of "Crossroads" in 1968. And he is clearly such a fan of Sonny's - he is just watching every move Sonny makes as he shreds the stage after Clapton's solo. In-credible stuff.
