Ritchie is still the best and always wil be. That said Steve Morse has produced some excellent work with Purple particularly Purpendicular

Nobody could ever replace Ritchie. As great a player as Steve Morse is he is wrong for the band. Anyone but Ritchie is wrong for the band. The same can be said for Jon Lord (RIP) It's a very unique situation. Because Ritchie is so individual, his shoes cannot be filled as in other bands where guitarists can be swapped like car parts. Jon and Ritchie (for all his personality quirks) WERE Deep Purple.

Are you kidding me Steve Morse compared to that. I don't care how technical Steve is! I saw them live with Steve and wanted to walk out. Ian Gillan has the nerve to say Ritchie shouldn't play if they get into hall of fame. How embarrasing that guy is! Are you kidding me.... Ritchie is all taste and style! One of a kind!

true that. him and hendrix. thing about ritchie is that he must lead, he can't follow. and it takes brilliant musicians like john lord who can follow ritchie. that's what makes this band so alive, so unpredictable and so fresh. when the vibe is right they blow the roof off like in this performance. i can't imagine it being any better than this. what a great way to bid farewell!

There are hundreds of technical talented players like him, yet Ritchie is the only one who actually make music, never boring never repeating always fresh. No one knows including himself what he 's going to do next.
