Tony, there is another version of this that was recorded in 1957.. That's probably the one you have. I do have The Fashions but have not yet gotten a copy of the Corvells. Yes, I'll post the Fashions for you

Maybe you should have told them you worked for PBS and you might get them on the next beg-a-thon.

OK. If you''ve had the 45 for a while, what took you so long to share it LOL. Wonderful atmospheric sound

I heard shades of "Tears on My Pillow".

I'm amazed you could even find these guys. I don't doubt some of them had great voices and were told you can make it big. They suddenly had hope where there was none before. Then they were used and cast aside. Hope dashed can be worse than no hope at all. Very sad.

Well, that about sums up the negative conversations I've had. Thankfully most of my interactions with doo wop performers/producers/djs have been highly positive. I've interviewed some of doo wop royalty and even hung out with a bunch of these guys at house parties, had some of them at my house, etc. Some of the performers are bitter due to being screwed over and don't want anything to do with the music anymore.

Kind of strange that conversations with all these guys had the same sort of result.

One other interesting convo was with Paul Winley. I asked a few questions about the groups and he said "that was a long time ago, I don't do that any more." Then I asked if he had any old records laying around and he said he sold everything to Colony records in the 70's. I then asked about the master tapes and he cursed me out and hung up, lol.

I had a similar situation tracking down Sonny from The Crows. Some people claim he died in the 70's but back in '93 I spoke with him. He said he won't talk about music but if I wanted to talk about fishing he would have been happy staying on the phone. I should have offered to take him fishing but I was only 12 at the time and not very quick witted yet.

I attempted in the 90's and am pretty sure I spoke to him. I called 411 and there was 1 Bouknight listed in Brooklyn. I called, asked if it was Nate from the Shells and he denied it. I explained that I wanted to interview him on my radio show and he cursed me out and then hung up on me. I have to say that it did sound like his speaking voice, just very raspy as if he's spent the last 30 years smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day.

Great sounds. Any man brave enough to track down Nate Bouknight deserves something.
