Shai Hulud - If a Mountain Be My Obstacle

Album: Great Worm (2006)

Lyrics:

Dust off my back and onward,

(Plow)

Sheer mass and stone

Random bits of bone and organ,

Man opposite mountain,

Dust off my back and onward

When the earth towers and refuses to bow

I will give it pause,

Keep tall, do keep tall,

A mountain falls hard,

Heart to summit, resolve to mass

make way, be scaled or bore through

as fine a motive as obstructing my view.

Keep tall, do keep tall.

A mountain falls hard (I can taste the fallen peak)

Forge on, conquer

I can move a mountain

Forge on,

To speak of failure and concede

Strong and silent,

I can move a mountain

Or see it crumble as I break it down

So towards the sky we climb

This is reachable, all together attainable avow the bones in my back

that I have taken on man and myself,

with success I am thrice what I was and much more to become

Forge on, conquer

I can move a mountain

Forge on,

To speak of failure and concede

Strong and silent,

move mountains

or break them down.

In this a bout of resolve and mass,

we grind Know the will of granite lies in bone,

steady dome

Cause my brow and body to sweat,

my tendons to ache

crimson the earth and by god never stop

plowing

That I have taken on man and myself,

with success I am thrice what I was

and much more to become

(Plow)

Sheer mass and stone

Random bits of bone and organ

Plow through the mountain

Dust off my back and onward

Plow through the mountain

Dust off my back and onward.

Matt Fox (guitar) Matt Fletcher (bass) Eric Dellon (vocals, drums) Geert van der Velde (backup vocals)

The last Shai Hulud show I attended was with Dellon on vocals. Of all the vocalists the band recruited after Geert, Dellon was the best fit. He had great energy and he's all heart. Not just some random Shai Hulud fan who tried out and got the gig. That's how the singer on Misanthropy Pure came across on stage. The worst stage presence i've ever seen.

You were always my favorite live. Plus I got to see you pop off your E-Town shirt and stage dive in Chicago!

I've never felt the passion in the vocals more so than the album version. It gives me goose bumps.

The album version on Reach Beyond the Sun destroys this version. Chad and Vigil's vocals on it really make it slay.

Well, it made Reach Beyond the Sun. Your wish is granted/

Sounds like another simple day in Dwarf Fortress.

Actually it was better that this one didn't made to misanthropy pure, i believe that the new version is way better

Hey firemusic, were you on the Hulud messageboard?

I see where you're coming from. I love both vocalists though.

The whole point of releasing new material is to release new material. I love Set Your Body Ablaze. I would have just liked to see this song on the record. Then again, if they put it on the record it would be with that tard on vocals, not Dellon, so nevermind. The original Set Your Body Ablaze is just flawless.

Why could't it have been both? I personally love the Re-recorded Set Your Body Ablaze.

Being in the band didn't suck. It was a lot of fun and was what i've always wanted to do. I couldn't keep my voice up and that's the bottom line. Life is different now and i've got other things to keep me occupied. But I sure do wish I was younger so I could do it again. Thanks for the encouragement.

If being in the band didn't suck so much, I'd say you should join again.
