Unreleased song. English version of "Non... C'est Rien", written by Michel Jourdan and Armand Canfora with English words by Robert Colby. Made famous by Barbra Streisand in 1966, this was most likely recorded around 1967/68. Although the production seems to lack the finishing touches, it's a shame he never released it, because he sounds wonderful.

Prefer the Streisand version. She's the master.

Strident's version is too hysterical and full of ego. She sounds like she needs a slap.

What a gorgeous voice. I'd never heard it before. I love both Scott and Barbra's versions. Please don't compare or compete the two. Both are exceptional.

STREISAND owns this song! It's all hers.

I think Jack Jones sings this better

This doesn't require belting out but something more subtle. I reiterate my earlier conviction that SW's version is more compelling than Streisand's. I was very familiar with BS's 60s recording but hearing Scott's was a revelation. The protagonist is supposedly a broken soul, but Streisand, in the name of irony, comes across as much too confident, too defiant. Scott, on the other hand, is vulnerable and conveys the pain of the lyrics much more effectively. And his strings! I vote Scott.

@bstedu Thats my point, Striesand has great vocals, but Scott really penetrates the lyric an turns it from a belt it out show tune to soething far more dark an melancholy. Some people would disagree, but then they they miss the point of Scott walker and his unique talent !

@dedeurs As much as I love Scott Walker, I agree the song suits Streisand's style better. Scott was a perfectionist and I'm sure he (and perhaps the producing team) was not happy with the end result either. More than likely the reason why this was not released.

@psychodamned It's got nothing to do with whether you like Streisands vocalist qualities or not; the song suits her better than it does Walker. It's also a song that must be belted out. What Scott does not do. His 'restrainment' is actually a producer's mistake.

Do you really think Streisand does this better? I agree with you about the superior orchestration (on the Walker version) but I would also suggest that Scott shows a certain restraint (morbid subtlety?) in his delivery that adds a little more depth than we hear in Barbara's rendition.

Awful. I'll stick with Streisand's version. No one can top Barbra.

@dedeurs "Off topic: does anyone know where to find a list of all the titles he ever sang in his tv shows?" Check your messages. :)

Barbra Streisand's rendition is a tad better, Scott audibly has to make an effort (except where he is allowed to belt out) ...Am I glad that I HATE Streisand! What makes the Scott version tick is the splendid orchestration. Off topic: does anyone know where to find a list of all the titles he ever sang in his tv shows?

A friend bought all of Scott's rare and unreleased tracks on the Internet and sent them to me (I'll send you a more detailed message, since I'm not allowed to advertise here!)
