Sounds like Sara is by and large channeling Laura with her vocal, while using the Babs hit single arrangement. Don't care much for Streisand, figures one of the few songs by her I like was written by Laura Nyro. Gone far, far, far too soon. Glad she was inducted.

Would enjoy hearing this with a more "unplugged" arrangement like Laura's recording. (Piano, Drums, Harmonica) The Barbra arrangement is the standard for Stoney End covers from what I have heard. Sara's vocals are excellent.

It pains me to say her name, but Streisand was the best...

I would really like to see Sara break away from all of the studio fluff. This cover is amazing but her mainstream stuff just falls short. She is talented. Why is she muddling it up with all of today's technology? Seems like a waste..

Okay, I take back what I said below. Was missing Laura. This is a great rockin' version of this song and the Mommaaaa at the end is great. Sara rocks and she scored a ten with this performance honoring Laura.

This comes nowhere close to Laura's version. Sara Bareilles has a strong voice but has NO range at all. If you want it sung with true passion and in a voice with more than one note range, listen to Laura Nyro's version. NOBODY else even comes close.

What a magnificent performance! I'm so glad that Laura was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She certainly deserves it. Sometimes it seems as if she fell between the cracks and was almost forgotten. She was a great artist, and a fabulous songwriter. Sara sure can cook! This is My new favorite version of this masterpiece.

Laura Nyro and Judy Garland are my favorite singers. Sara did a superb job on Laura's song.

I'd never heard this song before this performance, and I'd never heard of Bareilles before either, but wow. I checked out the original version afterwards too, and this is far and away the best version of this song I've found.

Grew up with Laura's music, have known it since I was a kid. This is a superb cover, a touch of the Streisand version with Laura's vocals almost coming through her.. A tough song to sing, but she nails it pretty much everywhere. The main thing is she keeps it simple, true to the melody of the song without adding all that melismatic showy superficial crap. Powerful lower register. No question Laura, who recorded with some of New York's finest soul singers, would approve. The hightlight of this performance wasn't the stop, it was just after it, when she kicks it back into rhythm. Her facial expression is remarkable, and at this point she clearly is so into the song, with a nod of the head and a wry subtle smile, she alone, by herself, powers the 25 piece band into full reprise throttle. Amazing. This is among the finest video moments I've seen in performance.THIS is how you do a cover to honor the original artist.

Diana Ross recorded a capable version of this song for her 1970 debut album but the track was omitted prior to release. It's now available on the expanded version of the album. It's not as good as Barbra's (and nowhere near as good as Sara's).
