The Greco-Italian War was a conflict between Fascist Kindom of Italy and the Kingdom of Greece (Hellas) during World War Two which lasted from 28 October 1940 to 23 April 1941. Only by the German intervention in the Balkans Campaign the war was decited in the favour of the Axis Powers.

This song draws a parallel to the Battle of Thermopylae in the Greco-Persian Wars 480 BC, when among others 300 Spartiates under king Leonidas faced Xerxes I of Persia and his armies.

Ohi Day (in the song "No-day", also spelled Ochi Day, Greek: Επέτειος του «'Οχι» Epeteios tou "'Ohi", Anniversary of the "No") is celebrated throughout Greece on October 28 each year, to commemorate Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas' rejection of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on October 28, 1940.

Also important was the moral example, set in a time when only the British Empire resisted the Axis Powers, of a small country fighting off Fascist Italy, something reflected in the exuberant praise the Greek struggle received at the time. Most prominent is the quote of Winston Churchill:

"Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks."

"Freedom or Death" is the motto of Greece: "Eleftheria i Thanatos" (Ελευθερία ή θάνατος).

CAUTION!

I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.

"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened." (Rikard Sundén, Sabaton)

----------

"Freedom or Death" (Freiheit oder Tod) ist das Motto Griechenlands: "Eleftheria i Thanatos" (Ελευθερία ή θάνατος).

ACHTUNG!

+PiscatorLager man, you should change the song's description. Metaxas was not Hellas' prime minister, he was a fascist dictator. He wasn't elected but gained power via violence.Keep up the great work!

This song is why I love Sabaton so much. The topics they sing about are items that rarely are taught nowadays. You hear about America and Britain in WWII, but you NEVER hear about Polish resistance, you barely hear about French resistance, you never hear about the Norwegians sabotaging the hard water plants.. None of this, yet Sabaton covers themThey take the heroes of the smaller countries, and give them the glory they deserve. As Churchill said, "Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks!

well this song made me proud to be greek, like churchill said:"Greeks don't fight like heroes, heroes fight like Greeks", also i and some historians think the greco-italian war was a turning point in the european war, because it delayed operation barbarossa(invasion of soviet union) thus when they invaded the soviets, the winter caught up with them and made it a terrible condition to fight whereas the russians were used to the cold but had some problems as well. the germans had to send forces to help the italians because they were losing badly, because not only the greeks repeled the attack, they counter-attacked and pushed the further back than where the original lines were, if the germans hadn't supported the italians, the greeks could have defeaten the italians but once the germans helped, greece fell to the might of the nazi war machine but resistance kept on fighting. I also see many greeks saying that they hate germany, but the only germany i hate is the fascist nazi germany of the third reich i have no problems with modern day germany cause of hitler's actions. wow first time I wrote a comment the size of a paragraph!
