The Falklands War (Guerra de las Malvinas):
On 2 April 1982 about 600 Argentine soldiers occupied the British Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic, which were claimed by Argentina since 1833, whereupon the British Government (Prime Minister: Margaret Thatcher) sent a fleet (comprising i.a. several nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, destroyers and landing craft) to the islands. In the following 72 days of conflict 253 British and 655 Argentines lost their lives. On 14 June the Argentine Military Governor Mario Menéndez signed the surrender document in the now reconquered capital Port Stanley.

April 1982 besetzten 600 argentinische Soldaten die britischen Falklandinseln im Südatlantik, auf die Argentinien seit 1833 Anspruch erhebt, woraufhin die britische Regierung (Premierministerin: Margaret Thatcher) eine Flotte (unter anderem bestehend aus mehreren Atom-U-Booten, Flugzeugträgern, Zerstörern und Landungsbooten) zu den Inseln entsandte. In dem darauf folgenden 72 Tage langen Konflikt verloren 253 Briten und 655 Argentinier ihr Leben. Am 14. Juni unterzeichnete der argentinische Militärgouverneur Mario Menéndez in der nun zurückeroberten Hauptstadt Port Stanley die Kapitulationsurkunde.

Even trough most brazilians "love to hate Argentina" and I do believe the population of the islands prefer to stay under British rule... I mean, Argentina is fucked, better stay under the richer and powerful protection. I understand why there is such a bad taste of having the British so close and being defeated to claim some land you believe to be yours. Yet Argentina seems to only care about the land and the land natural resources while also not being able of defending the islands.
