The crooning voice of RUSS COLOMBO is so much like the voice of BING CROSBY - - It is odd that 2 men sound so much alike - - Did the ITALIAN get there BEFORE the IRISHMAN did ....?....As we know of it RUSS died very young and BING went on to claim the TITLE of what we understand to be the "first" of the real American Crooners - I must look into this a lot more - - Joe Nania A.K.A. Just thought of this song today....out of the blue. My Mother and Grandmother taught me so many wonderful old songs. I miss them and the nights we use to sit around and sing. Thank you.

It's 95F in the northern Sacramento Valley which is a normal temp. for this time of year. If you live here very long, you get used to it. I would not live anywhere else.

Great stuff! Rest in peace, Lusfilda, I'll always remember you introducing me to this!

I call it Lovely, despite the sadness of the lyrics. I'll always associate Russ with "Goodnight Sweetheart." So let me dedicate that song to you and hope things cool off soon. This summer's heat has exhausted me.

Hi Fred, Indeed, it's one of the finest pop music voices of the 20th century. And such a lovely and sincere man!

Hi Ron, I am glad Russ gave you a moment of peace and comfort with a glass of the ice tea, in front of your house. I read about terriuble drought in most of the agricutural area of the US. It's un believable! I can imagine, how look today these vast cornfields of Iowa, where I had my good time in the US, living in the Grant Wood's barn, just in the heart of the heartland of Midwest... We, instead, have terrible heatwave with rain storms and twisters. Sometimes I feel like I'm in Jamaica!

I am glad that Russ has still so many fans of his outstanding talent! I am inclined to Genia's certainty, his death was NOT an accident with the gun. In that respect, Russ was not a fool, who made stupid tricks with a gun, like some teenage lad. While Al Bowlly, unfortunately, died because of his own decision - he refused to walk down to the cellar during the bombing of London, for he was tired after the show and wanted to go to bed.

I think, his face bears no signs of vulgarity, which - unfortunately - were present in Rudy's features - more and more prominent in pass of time. Perhaps, in Rudy's case the touch of Hollywood's corruptness and decay made its work on his face - while Russ was more pure and innocent, in the spiritual sense.

Do you know, that his death was kept in secret from his mother until her death? The family plot included false letters, fake phone calls and so on. None of them wanted to be responsible for her - literally - broken heart if she learned the truth. It illustrates, how much he was loved by everybody. Indeed, that guy looks like he was the son of an angel. A pure Latin sweetness and the sophistication of Italian beauty.

Trombonology Erstwhile

A beautiful record -- and so evocative of both Russ' special charm (it was, of course, his theme song) and the time in which he was at his height. As has been noted here and elsewhere so often, he had everything -- and nowhere to go but up. And now all we can do is enjoy his legacy, which is great, despite his short stay -- and maybe indulge occasionally in a little maddening speculation about what might have been.

Well, I guess I call it MADNESS but Russ is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS in that photo with the violin at 3:36 and the last one at 3:49...He is as SEXY as Rudy V. and I still don't believe that Gun story....NOT FOR ONE MINUTE....

Hello Grzegorz - this tune sounds heavenly - the lyrics - phenomenal - just like the musical arrangement. Your photos of Russ Colombo show his tremendous looks. He had everything - fabulous voice, great talent - famous super stars in his arm. He and Al Bowlly - died so very young and totally needlessly even if the saying goes that "those who are loved by Gods - leave us early". Those brilliant talents could be with us longer - if they were not foolish. Thanks a million and great weekend to you!
