All this time I thought Deniece Williams' version was the original. I like this one, too!

Anyone remember taking your little transistor radio upt to your bed and falling asleep to the music? At night, the airwaves played tricks and you might pick up some music coming out of Denver or Omaha, maybe ST. Louis or Jacksonville, Florida. Very cool and groovy to lay up on the roof in the summertime over the kitchen, looking up at the moon and the stars and listening to the 50's and 60's DJs spin their magic.

Back in the 50's and 60's music was everywhere. Radios were on, record players and early tape players were on. If you were washing your car, the radio was on, if you were doing homework the music played, we went to dances all the time for live music. Even in Vietnam music was a daily part of our lives, I remember many a night on guard duty, guard tower duty or road patrol with a transistor radio and a primitive ear bud that looked like a huge pink hearing aid. Music was shared no matter where you were. Today except for a concert, music is fairly solitary, just the listener and his/her cell or Ipod or tablet. Kids today talk to each other about their music or send each other songs, we shared it and lived it. Remember the radio stations and "Beatles VS The Four Seasons Battle of the Airwaves?" You and your best girl always picked out "Our Song" which was nice until you broke up.
