This was aired for the first time at the Academy Awards in 1999, as a tribute to Roy and Gene Autrey, who both died the previous year. At the very end, you can hear the crowd applause briefly .

THIS SONG IS "HILLBILLY HEAVEN" ACTUALLY THE PROPER TITLE IS "I DREAMED OF A HILLBILLY HEAVEN". THE # 1 TEX RITTER VERSION IN 1961 IS OFF OF TEX RITTER'S "HILLBILLY HEAVEN" ALBUM.

EDDIE DEAN WROTE THE SONG, RECORDED IT, RELEASING IT IN 1955, MAKING IT TO # 6 & # 22 ON THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY CHARTS. TEX RITTER WENT TO # 1 WITH IT IN 1961. ROY ROGERS RETAINED THE TITLE, "HILLBILLY HEAVEN" BUT CHANGED ALOT OF NAMES TO HIS COWBOY HEROES&CRONIES AS EVERYONE THAT HAS DONE IT SINCE EDDIE DEAN HAS DONE. TEX RITTER'S VERSION IS THE MOST LIKE EDDIE DEAN'S ORICINAL VERSION. ROY ROGER'S SONG "COWBOY HEAVEN" IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT SONG FROM HIS VERSION OF EDDIE DEAN'S-HILLBILLY HEAVEN.

Your not quite right about that. Roy Rogers did 2 different songs, one called "HILLBILLY HEAVEN" & the other called, "COWBOY HEAVEN" which is a different tune with different lyrics. However, everyone including TEX RITTER, ROY ROGERS, ANITA CARTER with sisters-JUNE CARTER CASH & HELEN CARTER JONES (& MOTHER MAYBELLE CARTER), & DOLLY PARTON, TAMMY WYNETTE, & LORETTA LYNN ON THEIR 1993-"HONKY TONK ANGELS" ALBUM HAS SAW FIT to ALTER the WORDS to FIT THEIR PERSONAL PERSPECTIVES.

Fantastic. Just one error-- the title is "Cowboy Heaven". Not "Hillbilly Heaven". "Hillbilly Heaven" was the name of a Tex Ritter hit, but is not this song.

I have taken to watching those old Roy Rogers TV shows again. Haven't seen those since they were on every Saturday morning back when I was young. They were in reruns than. Thank the Rural TV network for showing them again! Love to see those other old shows like the Lone Ranger. I wonder if Encore Western has that one?
